I never knew that the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! looked this...cheap. I though the center exhaust trips were the true and only exhaust tips on them. This is just as bad as the Lexus IS-F’s exhausts.

And I really used to love the S197 version of the S281, especially with the glass roof.

(I guess they had to cut holes in the diffuser for the hidden turn-downs.)

Does it have dual mode exhaust? Because the center pipes could be straight-through exhaust.

I wonder if they had a power loss issue.

Apparently the actual Saleen cars have them and they’re operated by vacuum or something, but not electronically. Makes sense but in typical Mustang fashion, who cares about being quiet when you want LOUD AS FUCK PYPES, YO.

I’ve seen a few actually convert to make the center actually work. they need a bigger pipe, but it works.

Then why would they buy this rather than some cheap mandrel bent mild steel?

Dunno, I’m not in that crowd. I’d prefer true center-exit exhaust, loudness be damned.

They did this with the diesel version of my coupe:

I think some European countries have stupid laws on exhaust tips. One might be how diesels have to have turndown tips.

That’s entirely possible. I remember when Dinan had a pair of fake tips on their e46 M3 because they found it flowed better with only 2 tips rather than the factory 4. He said he only did it because the back of the car looked very wrong with only 1 of the 2 cutouts filled.

What year is this? This would be to hide soot on Euro 4 or older emission diesels.

2001-2004 if I’m not mistaken.

Yes, it is definitely to hide the soot then.

I’m not entirely sure how the testing for exhaust noise limit go in US but it might be related to those. In European legislation the noise is tested only as drive by noise that has flat out acceleration from 50 km/h while passing the measurement point. The test is done with 2nd gear if the car has manual and only 4 speed gear box. Each extra gear will add one more test gear for testing. The maximum peak from any of the accelerations is the test value.

The limit itself is related to the maximum power of the engine.

So many manufacturers have added many kind of contraptions to have nice exhaust noise yet low number in the test.
